Last weekend I went up to New York again. This time, I went to the Fire Island National Seashore with my friend Chris. Fire Island is a barrier island, approximately 31 miles (49.5 km) long and varying between approximately 0.1 mile (0.16 km) to 0.25 mile (0.4 km) wide. Fire Island passes through southern Suffolk County, New York, and is southeast of Long Island separated from the main land by the Great South Bay in the U.S. state of New York, running approximately SW to NE. There is no bridge connecting Long Island to Fire Island. To get to Fire Island, we had to take a 15 min ferry ride. It was a perfect summer day with the temperature in the upper 80s. Upon arrival, we had lunch there. I had the crab salad sandwich. The portion was small but it was delicious. After lunch we went to the beach. Unlike most beaches, the beach here is clean and the sand is fine, making swimming and walking on the beach easier and fun. Most people particularly New Yorkers, prefer to rent the beach houses for the weekend. Fire Island is actually a small party beach. As we walked on the boardwalk that leads to beach houses, we saw private parties everywhere. Damn, how I wish I was being invited to one of those. At around 6 pm, we took the ferry back to the Long Island. We managed to take a glimpse of the beautiful sunset. It was a fun day. The fun didn’t stop there. We had dinner in Flushing, NY. It was delicious. The oyster pot was yummy. Since Chris didn’t like oysters, I basically had it all for myself. I overate though which was a bit unpleasant afterwards. Haha. After dinner, we went to West NY to see NYC night skyline. It was gorgeous. It makes me want to move to NYC even more.
